Originally it was a private country house until the building was acquired by William III and Mary II in 1689, and was adapted to Royal residence by Sir Christopher Wren. To this day the main parts of this house are private and therefore not open to the public, however the state apartments and the Royal Ceremonial Dress Collection is open to the public. Admission fees apply and concessions are available.
