The Civic was re-opened to the public of Barnsley in March 2009, after being closed for more than 11 years. The new venue is home to The Assembly Room a 336 seat performance space, The Gallery@, The Panorama and a variety of studios and workshop spaces which are home to local creative organisations. The Civic also programmes events in the re landscaped Mandela Gardens.
