There are welcoming log fires in the lounge and a panelled entrance foyer which contribute to the friendly atmosphere found in the hotel. This area has attracted Royalty since Queen Victoria - it would appear that almost every shop in Ballater is by Royal Appointment! The banks of the river Dee, again made famous by the Royal Family for their love of its salmon fishing, make a perfect morning stroll before breakfast. Those who enjoy watching wildlife will not be disappointed as kingfishers and red squirrels, both rare in other parts, are regular visitors to the Dee.
