The Roman Baths were built around 65AD to provide bathing and leisure facilities within the complex of a majestic temple which was dedicated to the Roman goddess of healing, Minerva. The hot springs actually began with the rain coming down on the Mendip Hills soaking into the ground then rising up hot and bubbling. They are split into three separate baths, The King's Bath, the Grand Central Bath and the Queen's Bath. The water passed through these three baths, cooling as it went.
