Toynbee Hall was the brainchild of curate Samuel Barnett and his wife Henrietta back in 1884. Their aim was to help the poor and under privileged people of East London. Today, Toynbee Hall still works to relieve need and to address the causes of poverty and distress with special focus on the East End.
