St. Martin-Le-Grand Church
Tourist Attractions in City Centre, YorkThis 15th Century church was badly damaged in the German air raid of 1942. The rebuilt church is a shrine of remembrance to the citizens of York who lost their lives in the First World War, those who died in the air raid, and those who fell in the Second World War War as well as those with unknown graves. St Martins is easily recognised by its great clock, surmounted by the figure of an 18th Century naval officer using a sextant known as the Little Admiral. Admission is free.
